Airtel recently won 5G spectrum in latest 5G auction in 2022. Expected 5G network launch is expected by end of 2022. Lets talk about bands that your handset needs to be compatible with Airtel 5G network.
- N78 – 3.3ghz band with 80mhz of TDD spectrum holding.
- N258 millimeter wave with 800mhz of TDD spectrum for selected congested areas.
Airtel brought lesses spectrum than Jio in last 5G auctions. Biggest is missing sub ghz band for 5G coverage where jio brought 10mhz of FDD spectrum for indoor coverage. Still we expect Airtel will convert one of the 4G band like band 1 or band 3 from 4G to 5G.
Expect speed of upto 800mbps on Band 78 of 5G on Airtel.
