- Firstly it started with B Routers with 11mbps connected speed. Routers were very cotly in initial stage. It never took off in India till we had G routers with speed of 54mbps. Only 2.4ghz band was used for both B & G wifi networks.
- Then came the improved N routers with 144mbps link speed one same 20mhz 2.4ghz frequency band when wifi really took off in India. Later via usage of 40mhz of 2.4ghz bandwidth the speed of N routers was increased to 300mbps.
- Few years back came AC routers or dual band routers as we all know with addition of new 5ghz band. Initially only AC750 routers were available where 433mbps on 5ghz(40mhz) was added to 300mbps of 2.4ghz(40mbps). These initial AC routers were also very costly so never sold that much.
- By the time AC1200 with 866mbps 5ghz(80mhz) + 300mbps on 2.4ghz was launched it became most widely used routers in India.
