Airtel the leading mobile and telecom operator of India is rapidly upgrading its 4G network to all tier 2 and 3 cities n towns. On such addition is Kharagpur in WB where Airtel has launched dual 4G service in both 1800mhz plus 2300 network. 2300mhz is good for speed and capacity while 1800mhz is for in-building penetration.
“We are delighted to roll out our 4G services in Kharagpur. Customerscan look forward to a superlative smartphone experience with Airtel 4G and enjoy superfast access speeds. We invite all data savvy customers to upgrade to Airtel 4G and be a part of India’s widest 4G network.” said Ravindra Singh Negi, CEO – West Bengal & Odisha, Bharti Airtel Ltd.
Good to see our IIT cities getting 4G service now. Airtel is rapidly upgrading its network under project leap investing in 4G, 3G, 2G and adsl , vdsl n fiber upgrade of its network in next 2-3 years.
Jio is already present in Kharagpur. And it is already reported that many IIT students have availed Jio 4G service with LYF handsets. Lets see what Airtel does to bring them back to the network. Problem is even after having data capacity on 2300mhz 4G network Airtel is reluctant to give data service at affordable level. It may be noted that Rs.250/GB standard data charge is too high for Indian customers. In western countries data charges have fallen after 4G launch due to increase in capacity while we are yet to see that trend in India. With Jio everyone is expecting that rate correction to happen.
