Bharti Airtel has announced free incoming while roaming from 1st April 2017. Among incumbents Bsnl and Vodafone are already giving free incoming while roaming for some time now.
Airtel has gone one step ahead and said that even outgoing calls/sms tariff would be same as home circle while in roaming. This step is to counter JIO which has said home like roaming tariff would be applicable and they won’t charge anything extra for roaming while in India.
So sms and data were already like home circle now with free incoming and outgoing tariff like home circle “One India One Tariff” initiative of govt. is on verge of becoming reality.
We hope recently announced Rs.345/Rs.145 unlimited calls prepaid plan and infinity postpaid plans would now include unlimited outgoing roaming calls also from 1st April 2017.
As expected Idea Cellular would follow this soon along with Rcom, Aircel, Tata Docomo. Vodafone and Bsnl only give incoming free in roaming not roam like home which Jio & Airtel are providing so expect them to update on this soon.
