Area is just one of the factor before decinding what ton of AC you need. For 500sq ft area we usually recommend 2-3ton of AC which is a wide range so other factors decide on how big an ac you need. Infact instead of tonnage we would recommend you to check cooling capacity in wattage (different from power consumption watts )on energy rating labels to actually check the exact tonnage. Considering current trend of labeling 6300watt CC as 2ton as won’t be suffice for your 500sq ft room. So better look for 7000watt cooling capacity as minimum.

Others factors to decide tonnage or rather cooling capacity of your AC are:

  • Top floor or not? add 1500watt cooling capacity
  • Direct sunlight or not? add 1000watt cooling capacity
  • more than 1 No of Windows and door openings? add 1000 watt cooling capacity

So if all 3 of above factors have yes then better get a 3 ton(7000+1500+1000+1000= 10500watt CC) AC for 500sq ft room.

Inverter or non-invertor depends on no of hour you use this AC. For 8hour+ inverter Ac is recommended. For less than 4 hours non-inverter AC.

OR You can also choose 2 nos of 1.5ton AC which would be the best for redundancy and better get a inverter AC if you are going for 2 (1.5ton) AC as it would switch to lower tonnage on prolong usage thus saving you electricity.
