Xiaomi Redmi3s updated 2016 version of last years Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime comes in two variants.
The Redmi 3S with 2GB ram 16Gb rom minus finger print sensor is priced at Rs.6,999 and
Redmi 3S prime with 3GB ram 32Gb rom plus a finger print sensor with price tag of Rs.8,999.
Body & Exteriors
Redmi 3S comes in metal body available in three different color options. Built quality and finishing is very good. Handset is curvy very comfortable to hold and operate. Both Redmi 3S and 3S Prime version has weight of 144 grams with 8.36mm thickness. Phone has different colour selection option for led notification at bottom of handset.
OTG is supported to connect external OTG pen drives. This is a dual sim handset with hybrid slot and you can use a (micro sim and a nano sim) or (micro sim or micro sd card). Sound output is loud and clear with the speaker on back side.
Software and OS
Redmi 3S is running marshmallow with MIUI 8 and supports for Hindi language inbuilt. With regular updates from active Xiaomi community you can enjoy updates on this handset for atleast 2 years.
Display & Camera
Redmi 3s has 5inch screen with 720p resolution with good color reproduction and viewing angles. Redmi 3S comes with 13megpixel auto focus camera on rear and 5mp camera on the front. Rear camera can shoot Full HD videos though picture and video quality is average.
Sensors
Redmi 3S comes with good no of sensors like accelometer, magnetic, gyro, proximity, light, step counter and infrared sensor.
Infrared sensor comes handy to control electronic devices like TV, AC etc.
Fingerprint sensor(prime version only) on back is fast and accurate with easy one tap to unlock the handset lock.
The step counter sensor can be used with Mi-fit application for monitoring physical activities like no of steps one take daily, hourly or monthly basis with no of calories burned.
Connectivity
Redmi 3S supports 4G with VOTLE is supported. 3G and 4G reception of handset is good without any issues with major support of all 4G network band used by operators like Jio and Airtel. Though upcoming band 28 and band 41 is missing however it would time for these networks to be launched in India.
Processor and Gaming
It is powered by 64bit snapdragon 430 1.4GHZ octacore processor with adreno 505 GPU. On gaming front handset does an impressive job. For eg games like modern combat 5 plays really smooth. Playing Asphalt 8 in high visual mode was also buttery smooth without any heating up of handset.
Redmi 3S prime with antutu score of 41550 is nice handset however in comparison to redmi note 3 it’s got cpu power in it’s hood. Though for normal day to day usage you won’t notice any difference. Unlike Redmi 3 Note the redmi 3S cannot play 4k video without a lag.
Battery Backup
This handset comes with 4100mAh builtin battery. Battery backup is impressive you can expect 7-10 hours of moderate to heavy usage on single charge.Fast charging is not supported and it takes around 3 hours to charge it till 90% battery level.
Misc
SAR value is clearly mentioned on the back as 0.62 W/kg for head and 0.43 W/kg for body. Redmi 3S is made in India and inside the handset you’ll find manual warranty card, sim tray ejector pin, data cable and 5V 2A travel charger.
